TEST UPDATE

There will be a test on Monday April 12th...it will cover the Key Concepts of Mass Media/Popular Culture

1. COMMERCIAL (makes $)
(everything!, product placement)
2. CONSTRUCTION
a) careful constructions (McD's print ad)
b) constructs reality (pulp fiction equals desensitization to violence)

3. CREEDS (values)(the radiohead video)

4. CODES/CONVENTIONS (the grunge song)

in the test, you will be asked to read passages/view clips/refer to the clips and examples covered in the course and explain how they fit under the headings above

basically, you need to be able to explain what each of these mean and how an example demonstrates that concept (how "nipplegate" shows that all media products are carefully constructed for example)
